As the pandemic lockdown dragged on, I found myself beginning to write some music for fingerstyle guitar; in part inspired by arrangement work I was doing on Worlds Live Acoustic, as well as just where my head was at that time.
The early days of the pandemic were for me a time of change and rediscovering who I am. I named the collection of songs I was writing (be)longing to describe my emotions at the time; the idea of longing to belong.
I was asked in late 2021 if I would like to play a 30 minute-long set for Eon Night FINALE, the farewell of the community live music event night that had been running in the Porter Robinson Discord server for a number of years. Since the Worlds Live Acoustic set I had done previously was so well received, absolutely I said yes!
I decided this would be a good opportunity to debut some songs from (be)longing, even if they weren’t fully finished, alongside a mix of brand new Porter Robinson arrangements (including a heavily requested arrangement of Blossom!). I felt they complimented each other so well since my love of Porter Robinson’s music (especially the Nurture era) heavily inspired my songwriting at the time, and so I thought an audience of Porter Robinson fans would enjoy it!
A finished release of (be)longing will see the light of day as an EP one day. I’ve also continued working on improving and arranging more Nurture-era (and beyond!) stuff that I would love to perform like this again!
